Nutrition Consultation FAQS

  • Our FREE 15-minute discovery calls are where we learn a little bit more about what brings you (or your loved one) to see a dietitian and what your/their goals and expectations are. We can also talk through any other queries you may have to ensure that our service is the right fit for you.

Based on your needs, we will then match you with the best dietitian to help you reach your goals. Once matched, your dietitian will then contact you directly to book you in for a 60 minute initial consultation.

Alternatively, you may also wish to use your Discovery Call to speak directly with your ‘matched’ dietitian, to ensure you both click and are the right fit for each other.

Please note that we are unable to provide any nutrition advice during our 15 minute discovery calls.

  • To help you get the most out of your appointment with ABC Nutrition, we’ve put together a nutrition assessment form for you to complete before your first appointment. This will help us to gain a better understanding of your medical history, lifestyle and eating patterns. We are not here to judge - there are no right or wrong answers.

This form will be sent out to you via email, once you have booked in to see us. By filling out this form ahead of time, we can spend more time focusing on YOU and what really matters during your first consultation, rather than collecting information!

You will also receive a copy of our service agreement.

If you have any questions at any time, please contact us.

  • We offer a client-centered approach and will put your needs first! Your initial consultation is where we learn more about you and what makes you tick. We will review your completed online nutrition assessment with you and talk with your to understand more about what your needs and expectations are. Once we have an understanding of what’s important to you, we will work together to develop a set of personalised goals and strategies, based on your nutrition and health needs.

We believe ‘slow and steady wins the race’ - with small and gradual changes being more sustainable in the long-term. Your dietitian will work with you to break big goals down into smaller, more achievable actions. During this session, your dietitian will provide you with plenty of helpful information to help you reach your goals and also provide you with education about the importance that nutrition plays in various health conditions.

  • We focus on flexibility and providing you the tools to make your own healthy choices, as we believe that prescriptive meal plans can feel very limiting. Our experience also shows that for most people, it can become challenging to stick to prescriptive meal plans over the long-term. Therefore, to support you to become independent when planning your meals, we are excited to offer a variety of nutritious meal and snack ideas and guidance on how to create a health meal/snack that can inspire you - whether it’s cooking at home or eating out.

However, if you are looking for a tailored plan and feel this works best for you, we can absolutely assist with crafting this for you, for an additional fee, based on your specific needs. Just mention this option during your consultation and we can provide you with all the necessary information.

Alternatively, feel free to reach out for a brief 15-minute Discovery Call to discuss how we can best meet your requirements.

  • Our follow-up appointments are where we focus on and refine your goals and actions even further based on how you have been progressing. They are also an opportunity to provide more in-depth education and tools, and provide an opportunity for further monitoring and adjustments.

While our initial consultation establishes your baseline, our follow-ups allow for the evaluation of progress and identifying any challenges faced. This adaptive approach ensures that the approach we take remains relevant and effective over time.

Additionally, follow-up appointments promote accountability. Regular check-ins can help motivate you to stay committed to your goals. Follow-up sessions also provide a platform for education. As you begin to implement new tools, you may encounter questions or need clarity on specific topics. Follow-ups allow you to address these concerns with your dietitian.

Follow-up appointments can sometimes also reveal underlying issues that may not have been apparent during the initial consultation. Adjustments such as addressing food intolerances, managing nutritional deficiencies, or adapting plans for specific lifestyle changes can be addressed in more detail.

The pace you work at with your dietitian is entirely up to you, and because of this we offer a range of packages and programme tailored to suit your needs.

  • Head over to our fees page to find out more information about our pricing.

We also offer a range of packages, which come at a discounted rate. You can discuss which package is best for you, during your initial consultation with your dietitian.

At the end of your session, you will be emailed a copy of your invoice. As part of our service terms (Refer to ‘The Fine Print’ below), we require all invoices to be paid in full within 24 hours of your consultation.

    Do you heave Healthcare Insurance?

Nutrition services provided by an NZ Registered Dietitian may be eligible for rebates from some private health insurance providers depending on your insurance fund or level of cover. Contact your health insurer to see if you are eligible.

  • We believe in matching you with the best dietitian to meet your unique health and wellness needs. Based on your goals and medical history, we will connect you with a dietitian who is experienced in working with clients with your specific medical concern and/or goals.

When required, this may mean that we are only able to offer telehealth services, if your health needs best match those covered by a dietitian outside of your location. However, we will always let you know ahead of time, and it is your choice should you wish to progress making a booking with us.

We also know how important it is to get the right ‘fit’ when it comes to working with a healthcare professional. If you are unsure about whether the dietitian you have been matched with, is the best fit for you, your matched dietitian can give you a FREE 15-minute Discovery Call to see if you both click.

You can find out more about our team members by heading over to our ‘About Us’ page.

  • Wherever you are located in NZ our team is here to help.

Our dietitians and nutritionists are located throughout New Zealand. We see clients in-person at clinics in Auckland (Mt Eden, Papakura and Milford) and Taupo.

We also offer telehealth appointments for those outside of clinic locations.
